| Thanks to Lark! Episode 6 ~ Maelstrom: Sara and Conchobar are in bed, making love through the night. Sara teases Conchobar, saying he's going to turn her into a degenerate like him; he responds she's already a degenerate like him: she sleeps until noon, stays out past midnight, and drives the boys wild. Giggling, their desire is fired anew. In his study before a roaring fire, Kenneth Irons tunes into their ardor through his connection to the blade. Sara's responses to Conchobar are pushing Irons to the limit, he's nearly apoplectic and nearly passes out from Sara's ecstacy. In the morning Sara tries to leave for work, and Conchobar is teasing her to get back in bed, and Sarah is amused, this is Irish foreplay, how sweet! He tells her to call in sick; he taunts her it will be a wasted trip for her to even go down the stairs, she'll just have to come back and tear off her clothes again. Smiling, she returns to the bed to lie beside him for another embrace. Sara is laughing when she finally escapes; as she descends the staircase, Conchobar is wiggling his fingers at her, telling her she's under his thrall. Moments later, Conchobar is in the kitchen, digging through the cabinets, when he hears movement behind him. Triumphant, he calls out that he told Sara see, what did he tell her, but when he turns, it's not Sara, it's a man in a stocking cap poised to attack him. As his assailant butts into Conchobar, he fights back: they knock everything apart in the kitchen; when the stranger gains the upperhand, throwing Conchobar against the wall, then knocking over the table and chairs, he winds up on the floor besides the drum set, which he tries to use as a weapon against his attacker. They fall across the sofa, the coffee table, knocking over lamps and candles, and Conchobar, manages to get on top of him, pummels the man into temporary submission. He tries to escape to the roof, only to be met by two more invaders. He breaks a wine bottle missed in the assault across the room and tries to stab with it, but the three finally overpower him and bind his hands behind him with duct tape and bag his head with a dark hood. Sarah and Jake are eating hot dogs bought from a street vendor as Latin music plays cheerfully around them and Jake is teasing Sara about her night: she's in an unusually good mood, his proof is she just bought him breakfast. Sara replies this is not just breakfast, it's fine Vienna Sausage served on Klute with a tomato/mustard sauce. As they climb a stairway, Sara sees Sergeant Orlinsky, an officer recently brought over from Special Cases by Dante, leaning out the window of his car talking to a pair of streetwalkers. Jake comments it must be a routine bust, but Sara sees two-faced Chezeray, who pimps most of the girls in the area, getting out of his car and heading for Orlinsky. Jake is skeptical why it's of importance Orlinsky is working vice today, but Sara sees a payoff to Orlinsky: *before* it actually happens. Jake is amazed, while Sara is bewildered to see the payoff happen exactly as she had just seen it happen. Jake wants to know how Sara knew it was going to happen, she is enigmatic as she takes a bite out of her hot dog, watching one of the girls gets into the passenger seat of Orlinsky's car. Conchobar is dragged down the alley by his attackers, and a woman is shouting orders to them as they throw him into a van: they race away. Sara and Jake are following Orlinsky, and Jake is confused by what he has seen, how can they be certain it was a payoff, and Sara loses patience, it was a payoff, grow up! Jake asks what can they do? Tell Dante his friend took a payoff? Go to IA? He doesn't want to rat on a fellow officer! Sara sends Jake to a convenience store to get 35mm film. Conchobar is being dragged down a dark hallway, the woman, Fay, encouraging them to beat him up, the leader yelling at her to calm down. She stops her harangue, following silently, and Conchobar tries to break loose while another man pounds on him; the leader stops him as well, saying Conchobar is no good to anyone dead. Jake returns to Sara with the film, glad they'll have corroboration, taking pictures of Orlinsky: but they don't have a camera. She fiddles with the roll, ruining it, but when Jake comments, Sara tells him to just stick with her, he might learn something. Conchobar is tossed on the floor of a dank warehouse, and the leader, Sean, tells the woman, Fay, who has pulled out a knife, put it away, but she is relentless, she wants to cut Conchobar "just a wee hole so he can breathe better" in the hood. Conchobar asks when "one of you Watchers" is going to tell him what's going on, and Fay rasps at Conchobar, "Have you seen your brother? Lately?" Sean backs her down again. Conchobar lies back on the floor. A detective steps into Jake and Sara's office, and Sara wonders has he seen Orlinsky today? He hasn't, must be stuck in traffic, anyway, he's come in because there's been an apartment break-in. Sara asks if anyone died, and when the sergeant says no, she's not interested - until he tells her it's her apartment. Back at her place, Sara and Jake are sifting through the mess: she is stunned by the mess - she sees Conchobar being attacked in the broken mirror on the floor, and she is devastated. Jake brings her back to reality - is anything missing, he asks? Sara sees Conchobar's guitar and shoes. Back at the station, Dante won't give in to Sara, yes, he knows Conchobar was kidnapped, but if there's not a dead body, it's not her job, and anyway, it's her boyfriend, that's the best reason she can't be involved - and she knows he's right. Still, she tries to push him to assign someone, but he won't be budged, they're homocide, not kidnapping: that's FBI. She tells him make it a missing person, but he won't, and she hisses he's not going to help her, is he? He drily comments she is a quick study, and turns back to the report he was reading, disregarding her. She whips open the door to leave, only to see Orlinsky just outside. Continued on next page |
