| Thanks to Lark! Episode 9 ~ Apprehension (continued): Joe Siri sits and drinks in his living room, talking to Dante who has come in quietly. He tries to tell Joe Jim Pezzini was not a hero, and all he's done is sign his own and Sara's death warrant. Joe points out: not his and Sara?s, his and Dante's. Dante found a gun in Joe's room, he loads it with White Bull bullets, and asks with false courtesy, does Joe mind if he uses it? Sara is re-setting up the drums at Talismaniac, they were collateral for the Witchblade, and Gabriel is uncomfortable, it seems to him Sara is "putting her affairs in order." She affirms, the White Bulls are after her, they trashed her bike, and Gabriel offers to help, but she tells him no, stay away from her as long as he can as far as possible. He tries to deny her, he's her friend, she can trust him, and she reminds him her father is dead, her partner, and her boyfriend. She goes to release Charleyne, and as they leave the cell, Orlinsky is there. Sara sees the murder of Prospero again, and she sees Orlinsky's face behind the trigger. Orlinsky asks about Charleyne, and Sara makes excuses for her release, schmoozing with Orlinsky, willing him to leave. She turns to Charleyne, was Orlinsky the trigger-man? Charleyne nods, terrified. In the office, Sara finds Irons, he looks old, white-haired with sunken cheeks and a cane: he tells her, "Behold the future." He is there to apologize for refusing to help her with Conchobar's ransom, he did it out of bitterness when she refused to live with him before, and asks for her forgiveness, but behind him, Nottingham shakes his head in silent warning. Irons offers Sara anything she may need, he will help her, and Sara is cautious as he exits. A call comes over the speaker, there's a rollout at Joe's, and Sara races over. Orlinsky is there already, he tells her she doesn't want to be involved, she;s too close, Joe is dead, but he has to be petty: "People behind you keep dying: why is that?" Sara sees Marie, but she turns away, and Sara breaks down. She breaks into Dante's desk, taking Bull bullets, and Danny is there, he says if she kills Dante, the Bulls will win, and she replies grimly, they already won, they killed Joe Siri, called it a suicide. Nothing is what it seems, she tells Danny, it's worse! Dante lies in bed, he opens his eyes and reaches for his nightstand, but Sara is on top of him with a gun pointed to his face. First he tries to tease her [and YUCK, the lust in his eyes is genuine], is that a gun in his face or is she happy to see him? Then he tells her she's a disgrace to the badge. She responds he killed Joe Siri, and Dante accuses her of taking hallucinogens. Sara says she'd be happy to kill him, and he is callous, "Like father, like daughter," so she pistol-whips him. Sara demands he tell her about the White Bulls, and he says he's not going to tell her a thing, so she takes out the shell casing from Tommy Gallo's gun, and oh, by the way, there's another one under her hammer, maybe she should kill him and call Tommy Burgess so he can walk away from the murder when he sees the rounds on the floor? "Damn, Bruno, are you wetting the bed?" Sara warns Dante, she knows he's been trying to push her to the brink, and she can take it a lot longer than he can... Dante has the bulls in his office, Sara has gone too far, she was at his house, with one of their bullets; if ever there was justification for "Shoot to kill", it's her. Jake hangs back, the idea was to gaslight Sara, not kill her, and Dante says heavily, "Plans change." He gives Jake bullets. Sara meets Irons in his office, she didn't buy his apology, but did he really mean it when he said he'd help her? She tells him she needs the help of the media, and Irons says his car is warmed and ready, they can go to the VCN offices less than a mile away. Sara asks how he knew she was coming there, and he says they are linked, does it bother her? She responds, "Not this time." At the VCN newsroom, the anchor, Miss Schweitzer, says she needs proof, she can't just present this story, if it's right, it's a reporter's dream, and if it's wrong, it will destroy the police department. She wants Sara to give her 24 hours, she tries to dangle a carrot in front of Sara: they'll make it a special expose instead of just relating it as the news, but Sara is frightened, these people want to kill her! Miss Schweitzer points out Sara has Irons' protection, and Sara asks of him why can't he make her present the story? Irons says his newsroom is autonomous, he won't control the news, and Sara demands in amazement, "NOW you grow scruples?" The blade gives her only a moment's warning: she leaps up as Dante barges in, attempting to arrest her. Tommy Burgess fires at her, but Jake thwarts Tommy's aim. Sara knocks down another Bull coming in from the opposite doorway and Orlinsky chases her. Sara dodges two of his bullets, the gauntlet deflects a third, and as she runs down a stairwell, as Orlinsky shoots wildly after her. In a hallway, Jake finds Sara, but she hesitates, confused, then Ian is there, warning her not to trust Jake because HE is a White Bull! Jake takes aim at Ian, Sara pulls out her gun, she is trapped between the two of them, unsure which way to go. Nottingham tells Sara he wants to kill Jake because Jake betrayed her. He tells her more, he took the videotape under Irons' orders, but he delivered it back to her because she needed it; he also paid the ransom for Conchobar. He declares: he is the only person she can trust. Jakes fires at Nottingham, but he dodges at the end of the hallway. Sara runs down a side corridor and sees Danny, who points her the way out. "You, I trust," she mutters as she races past. Dante and the others barge into the hallway, and Jake sends them down the way Nottingham went, making certain Sara got away before chasing after them. In his study, Irons tears apart Bruno Dante, they had a deal, Dante overstepped his authority, he broke the agreement: but Dante very stupidly tells Irons any previous agreements they had are invalid, he wants Sara dead, and if Irons doesn't like it, he'll have to kill Dante first. Irons is almost amused, "Have it your way, Captain." Jake comes into his house, he is tired, Sara comes down the staircase, she has a gun on him, she's looking for an honest man, and she can't even find one in the mirror. Jake reassures her, she can trust him - and the blade is quiet; she puts away her gun. She starts to leave, and Jake tries to keep her there genuinely hoping to protect her, but she says she has to keep moving. Before she goes, she calls Jake, "Partner..." |
