Thanks to Lark!  Episode 8 ~ Thanatopsis (continued): Jake mopes, hearing an echo of Dante's voice discussing the White Bulls. He goes to Dante, says he wants to join, but he's worried about the test and what it means for Pezzini. Dante tells him he won't know the test is coming, it will come, he'll pass, and it will be OK.
Ian hovers ominously in his cell.
Nottingham is leaving, Orlinsky is releasing him, and Sara catches him; he is sarcastic about her lack of evidence, and nasty about her working with Gabriel. Nottingham tells her, "If you want to stay close to me, just ask, Sara, we can be inseparable." Sara responds he is *A Freak*. He asks if Jake is in, Sara says no; he strides out purposefully, saying he has a debt of honor to repay.
Jake works out in an empty stadium, as he puts on his sweat jacket he finds a bullet with and etched black bull in his pocket.
Sara reads Parricide, she sees the shadowy figure on the cover and wanders through Sly's house. Gabriel arrives, Sara has something to tell him?
Jake sprints up the bleachers and sees Nottingham sunning himself. He reaches the top and turns to find Nottingham confronting him.
Sara tells Gabriel Sly saw his death coming and he accepted it. Now Gabriel has to accept it.
Jake comes down to meet Ian, he asks where is Jake's gun, why doesn't he use that bullet on him? Jake hedges, what bullet?
Sara tries to get Gabriel to admit Sly is dead. He's angry, so the case is closed, huh? Sara says she'll continue investigating, that's her job; Gabriel's job is to mourn his friend. Gabriel asks if she knows what he's feeling because of the blade, she says no, it's because of her heart, and she holds him close. Then the blade alerts her...
Jake tells Ian if he's there about the punch, well, he ruminates... he reaches for a towel, and his gun is under it. Nottingham easily disarms him and tosses Jake down the bleachers. Over and over he beats Jake, asks how will he apologize for betraying his partner, for sentencing her to death. Jake tries to defend himself, he asks uncertainly is Nottingham talking about Sara? Ian grates, "You don't even deserve to say her name!" He tosses Jake over a stairwell and leaps effortlessly to land on the field, Jake tries to attack, but he is overcome; Nottingham takes the bullet out of Jake's pocket, puts it in Jake's teeth and is about to punch Jake right on the bullet (presumably really hurting him with a mini explosion) and Sara arrives, stopping Ian's fist inches from Jake's jaw. As she argues with Ian, Jake furtively pockets the bullet, then sags. Ian says he never met a worthy opponent until he met her: before she rescues him, she should consider that Jake betrayed her. She says there's a lot of betrayal going around, and Ian says she knows less than she thinks: he says he is committed to Jake's death, if she wants to save him, she'll have to kill Ian. The gauntlet forms, and she tells Ian it would be his choice, not hers. As he leaves, Ian asks, "Sara, you wouldn't lift the blade against your own flesh and blood would you?" Sara is astonished, what did he say? He runs away as she screams at him to repeat what he said.
Sara cleans up Jake in the office, teasing him he's a wuss when he winces at her ministrations, and they are
not going to report this, right? She asks him what was Nottingham talking about when during QA, and Jake says he's full of crap. He is upset, does she believe Nottingham? Sara says she believes herself, in this case, she'll take Jake's word for it. Jake says they're even, he helped her out with the Irish, she helped him today, she reminds him this is what partners are for.
Sara's cell rings, and she turns away from Jake, answering the call coldly with, "Flesh and blood?" Nottingham sits alone in the dark on the stairs in Sly's house, fingering a scabbard: he tells her Gabriel is right, Sly's death was no suicide, he knows it for a fact. Sara says there is only one way he could know "for a fact", and he responds Kenneth Irons thought art was imitating life a little too closely. He remarks: the comic Parricide - he always liked it. He hangs up, and Sara backs into her office with Jake, closing the door.
Thanks to Lark!  Episode 9 ~ Apprehension:  A pimp is shot in the street as his assailant screams at him for more money. The shell casings fall in silhouette on the damp street: they are .45 magnum with a black bull etched in the brass...
At a Lucullen banquet for the White Bulls, Dante thanks the "ladies" of Refined Escort Service for the evening's entertainment, and the agreement, he assures them, is for the next thirty days, if they turn in a business card for Refined Escort Service when caught in a "compromising position", they will be set free. Then he asks them to leave so they can discuss business.
Jake and Sara bring in a posse of prostitutes, women to the left, men to the right (a transvestite chooses the left side), and Sara asks who is acquainted with the "deceased Flesh Peddler Prospero McQueen": they all are. Jake and Sara sigh, it's going to be a long night. The blade alerts Sara to an envelope on the desk to her. She excuses herself, much to Jake's annoyance.
Dante tells the Bulls that after the unfortunate demise of a heroin dealer, the White Bulls scholarship fund is $50,000 richer, thanks to Tommy Burgess.
In her office, Sara finds newspaper articles and a videotape; when she starts it up, it's her father, quickly Sara shuts her door and draws the blinds.
The bulls are exiting the banquet, but Dante stays behind with some others.
Sara watches: it's February 22, 1984, and if she's watching this tape, Jim Pezzini says he is dead, a victim of the White Bulls, a group he has been trying to expose.
