| Thanks to Lark! Episode 6 ~ Maelstrom (continued) : Stalking back to her office, Jake follows, and whispers he'll help, he'll check her case files, see if any of her cases have been released. He asks what Sara is going to do, and she is cagey: Jake warns her to keep in touch. Conchobar sings obnoxiously as his kidnappers pace; Fay tells him to stop, and he reminds her he is a musician, if she wants quiet, kidnap a mime! Sean backs her off, don't talk to the prisoner, and Conchobar sneers no one will buy him, he's the wrong guy. Sean recites: his real name is John Patrick Dougherty, born 6/25/73, County Down Republic of Northern Ireland. Fourth child of four brothers born to Molly and Seamus Dougherty. His oldest brother was killed in a motorcycle accident, the second entered the priesthood - but they want the third brother: Edward, international warrant no. 92651, Irish Republican Army, wanted for terrorism, destruction of property, kidnapping, extortion. Conchobar realizes they're a police squad from the Northern Government. Sean goes on Edward instigated an attack in Belfast in June of 1996, a series of 20 car bombs went off over a day: Conchobar argues Edward was not proven responsible, but, says Sean, they have proof, but Edward has eluded arrest. Conchobar asks if killing him is retribution for his brother, and is told the plan is to return to Ireland on a Londonderry steamer, find Edward, he may refuse at first, but he'll "get soft" after a couple of beers, make the exchange, and when he falls for it, they'll kill them both. Fay smiles. Sara is home cradling Conchobar's guitar. Sighing, she returns it to the guitar case and finds a song he had written for her. Images of him flash, as Conchobar the king and Conchobar the bard, her lover. She finds pictures of his home, his family, then finds a disturbing picture of men with a gun, drinking at a tavern. Bombs and gunfire in the streets of Ireland flash, and she rushes out. Conchobar tells Sean and Fay his brother Edward never cared about him, called him a mama's boy because he wouldn't play football, wouldn't join the IRA, he was a disappointment to his elder brother. Fay mocks his cowardice in coming to America. Conchobar tells them if their plan depends on Edward getting drunk and giving in, they're going to lose; Eddie doesn't drink. At the station, Sara surfs secured sites for Edward Dougherty. Jake comes in to report her collars are still in jail, it's not them; Sara announces she's going to Hell's Kitchen, and Jake offers to back her up, over her objections. After they leave, Dante slips in and sees the page Sara was reading: he is contemplative she's not staying out of the investigation as ordered. In a pub, Sara spies a patron who sees her and runs: she grabs him and tosses him into a mirror. As she drags him to a back room, the Witchblade suit of arms reflects in the broken mirror. Jake follows uneasily, and finds Sara kicking this guy's ass! She holds a gun to the guy's head, Jake tries to stop her, and she introduces Connor Durea, a hit man for the Westies - she jams a knife in the wall by his head, wraps his hand around the hilt and tells him he's under arrest, he drew a knife on her. Sara demands a protesting Jake's cell phone and orders him to leave, then tells Connor to call and find out where Conchobar is, don't even try to tell her he can't find out, or she'll kill him. Danny starts shouting at her, she's losing it, this is wrong, she can't act this way, and she begins to fight with Danny, terrifying Connor with her apparent insanity. He points out he's acting just like Tommy Gallo, she's losing herself, and she tells Danny it's about time he noticed - he goes. Connor finds out where Conchobar is being held. Sara enters the warehouse, the gauntlet forms, and she tosses the guard across the hallway. Fay greets her with a gun and compliments Sara on her attack, then compliments Sara's bracelet. Fay is sarcastically pleasant, they know who Sara is: she leads Sara to Conchobar, who is beaten badly. Sarah tries to reach him, but they won't let her. Sara tries to talk to Sean, tries to convince them Conchobar is innocent. Instead of a response, he challenges her, how did she beat up the guard, Oliver? She threatens them with backup, Fay points out if there was backup, it would be here by now. Sara asks why are they there, and Conchobar gives her the straight poop - they want to trick Edward into turning himself in and then they'll kill them both. Fay shoots Conchobar in the leg. Sean roars at Fay, that was uncalled for, and she spits back one of the people killed in Belfast by Edward Dougherty was her fiancé: she hates them both. Sara visibly composes herself, she asks what it will take to free Conchobar, a million? 1.5? Fay protests, Sean shuts her up again, and tells Sara two million. She asks where she's going to get two million? Sean responds the same place she was planning to get the 1.5, of course. Fay adds she wants Sara's "pretty bracelet". Sara is taken aback, she won't part with it, and Fay gleefully points her gun at Conchobar's heart; Sara sees images of Gallo, her father, Maria, Danny - and tosses the Witchblade to Fay. Fay admires her new jewelry. Kenneth Irons is having a party. While mingling, he feels the Witchblade leave Sara's wrist. At a look, Ian approaches Irons, when told it's gone, he asks if it's testing her, or the Periculum? He is sent to find out what happened. Jake returns to his office and finds Dante waiting. Dante wants to know where Sara is. He tells Jake he can't keep helping "that slacker", and Jake defends her. Dante starts schmoozing, he tells Jake Sara isn't training him, but Jake is good, Dante sees big things for his future. From the balcony in his study, Irons expresses surprise at Sara's request for two million dollars: she replies she never asked him for anything, and he drawls, "You look somehow underdressed today, Sara"... Sara argues the money means nothing to him, and he persists, where is the Witchblade? Sara snaps he should know, and he agrees; yet she was warned that the Witchblade abandons it's wielder in her darkest hour, her need must be dire. Ambling down the stairs, he surmises the blade may have been jealous of her involvement with Conchobar. He speculates perhaps she was only a courier to deliver the blade to its true owner. Sara tries to beg for the money again, and Irons continues to stroll behind her, then touches her hair, smells it, begins to stroke her cheek gently: he huskily reminds her, "I offered you the world once, travel, education, companionship, you refused me." She tells him she'll accept now, if that's what he wants. Irons cups her face in his hands and leans in to kiss her and Sara appears to responds, but Irons says, "No, Sara, that's not what I want; what I want is the pleasure of rejecting you as you once rejected me." He dismisses her. Continued on next page |
