Girlflight

Michelle Rodriguez will join the cast of Lost. Her character was introduced in the finale, a fellow passenger chatting with Jack before the ill-fated flight

One of the many unanswered mysteries of the
Lost finale: Why was there a prominent flashback of Jack (Matthew Fox) chatting in the Sydney airport lounge with an alluring stranger (played by Michelle Rodriguez) before boarding the ill-fated flight that left him and dozens of others stranded on the mysterious island? There appeared to be no payoff to the sequence, but apparently it's coming next season. According to Variety, Rodriguez is joining the cast full-time. The Fast and the Furious actress will reprise her role as fellow Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 passenger Ana-Lucia Cortez.

Meanwhile, ABC is refuting rumors that two other high-profile names will be joining the cast next season. Credit listings that appeared on the Internet Movie Database last week claimed that Samuel L. Jackson and
Survivor: The Outback winner Tina Wesson would be appearing in the first episode of Lost's upcoming season. ABC tells the New York Post that both credits were false. The hoax credit has been removed from Jackson's IMDb page, but at press time, Wesson's page still lists her as a Lost guest star. Too bad it's not true; having outlasted the rest of the castaways in Australia (where the doomed Lost flight originated), Wesson could have held her own among the marooned islanders on the ABC drama; besides, they could use a nurse. Given his penchant for death scenes, Jackson probably wouldn't have fared as well.

Rodriguez Gets Lost For Real

Michelle Rodriguez will join the regular cast of ABC's hit SF series
Lost in its upcoming second season, playing Ana-Lucia Cortez, another passenger on the doomed Oceanic Airlines flight 815, Variety reported. Rodriguez's casting confirms expectations in the wake of her brief appearance in the show's first-season finale, in a flashback involving Jack (Matthew Fox) in a bar at Sydney Airport, the trade paper reported.

Lost is Rodriguez's first regular TV gig, following film performances in the upcoming supernatural thriller film The Breed, executive produced by Wes Craven, and a voice role in the Hispanic animated feature Sian Ka'an.

Rodriguez Joins Lost Castaways

Michelle Rodriguez may get to have that drink with Matthew Fox after all.

After a brief appearance on
Lost in part one of the show's season finale in May, Rodriguez will join the cast full-time next season, ABC says. She'll be playing a character named Ana-Lucia Cortez.

Rumors that the "Girlfight" star would join the cast have been swirling for some time now, and her addition presents some tantalizing possibilities for the show's second season.

From her cameo in a flashback sequence with Fox's Jack Shepard in part one of the season finale, we know that Ana-Lucia had a seat near the back of the plane on Oceanic Flight 815. From the show's pilot, we know that the tail section broke off before the plane crashed on the mysterious island that Jack and 40-some other survivors now call home.

The casting of Rodriguez adds credence to the idea that other passengers may have ended up on the island as well. Shortly before his death, Boone (Ian Somerhalder) made radio contact with someone who appeared to say "We're the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815."

Rodriguez first earned notice for her starring role in 2000's "Girlfight," for which she won an Independent Spirit Award and several critics' honors. She's also appeared in "The Fast and the Furious," "Blue Crush" and "S.W.A.T."
Lost will be her first TV series.
