Racer X Marks the Spot for Fox

Matthew Fox is ready to take a break from the mysteries of
Lost to play the mysterious Racer X.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox is in final negotiations to join Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, John Goodman and Susan Sarandon in Andy and Larry Wachowski's big screen adaptation of "Speed Racer."

"Speed Racer" was created by Tatsuo Yoshida and premiered as an anime series in Japan in 1967. The story centers on a teenaged Speed Racer (Hirsch) who encounters intrigue and danger on his road to racing glory. He is aided by parents Mom (Sarandon) and Pops Racer (Goodman), girlfriend Trixie (Ricci), little brother Spritle, his monkey Chim Chim and the mechanic Sparky ("Garage Days" co-star Kirk Gurry).

The generally masked Racer X is the most dangerous driver on the racing circuit, a daredevil who also works as a secret agent/mercenary on the side. In addition to being Speed's biggest rival on the track, the two men share a secret bond.

The Wachowskis will shoot "Speed Racer" in Europe this summer. Warner Bros. has already set a May 2008 release date for the long-awaited project.

Fox, Jack on ABC's Emmy-winning Lost, most recently appeared on the big screen in "We Are Marshall." He appears in the upcoming feature "Vantage Point," but to us he'll always be Charlie Salinger from FOX's
Party of Five.
