Doherty Takes Wing at UPN
Would you want Shannen Doherty as your Wingwoman? UPN does.
The network is close to signing Doherty for the lead role in its comedy pilot Wingwoman, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Should the deal go through, it would be the former Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed star's first regular sitcom role.
Wingwoman centers on a matchmaker who's good at finding mates for her male clients but less successful in her own love life. Reagan Gomez-Preston ("Beauty Shop") has also joined the cast as the lead character's roommate and co-worker.
Doherty, who last guested on a sitcom in 1992 (Parker Lewis Can't Lose), has made her name in dramas like 90210 and Charmed, as well as in the pages of numerous tabloids over the years. She's done some comedy work in feature films, though, notably in "Heathers" and "Mallrats."
More recently, she hosted the Sci Fi Channel's hidden-camera show Scare Tactics and had a recurring part on North Shore.
