| The inside scoop, from release date to cover art, and all the details in between, for the Charmed DVD can be found at TVShowsOnDVD.com. I'm including here the last few news items posted at their Charmed section, as well as the cover art [scroll down past text for pic] they've already posted. As I'm writing this January 8, there's just a few weeks before the scheduled release date of February 1, 2005 ~ finally! By David Lambert November 9, 2004 And the street date is... Many thousands of registered TVShowsOnDVD users have voted for Charmed to come out on DVD, making it the #1 most-requested series at our site...with 99% of you wanting season sets! We thank each and every one of you for your support, and now we want to reward you with the very first official word from the studio of the exact street date for Charmed - Season 1. Late yesterday, Paramount told me that the release date is: February 1, 2005! Bear in mind that release dates are ALWAYS subject to change, but Paramount has begun solicitating this set with retailers, and are using that date in their discussions. It is a very solid date at this time. Cover art will be available in the not-too-distant future, and the official details about the set will be circulated soon as well. Stay tuned, and...you're welcome! By David Lambert November 16, 2004 The Power of Three Will Set You Free: COVER ART IS HERE! We've told you that the release date for Charmed - The Complete 1st Season is February 1st, 2005. We've linked to The Amazon pre-order listing, where you can advance purchase the set right now for just $34.99 (Amazon's discounted price). What's next? Cover art. A picture is worth a thousand words, so we'll just let this one speak for itself: We would like to give thanks to our friends at Paramount Home Entertainment for their help and co-operation with the Charmed DVD information. Stay tuned for the final details about this release in the very near future. By David Lambert November 23, 2004 New info & a different look at the box Following up on our previous news for Charmed - The Complete 1st Season - which featured your first look at the cover art , as well as the first mention of the February 1st street date - we now have additional info and a new view of the packaging as well. Let's start with Paramount's back-of-the-box description of the show this release covers: Protecting the innocent, vanquishing evil and evil doers, and generally righting wrongs are not exactly on the agenda of every twenty-something on the fast track to discovering what life's all about. But for the Halliwell sisters, this has become their destiny. Prue, the oldest, is driven to succeed and dislikes the free-spirited antics of the youngest sister Phoebe. Piper, the earthy middle sister, mediates between her siblings. Phoebe discovers The Book of Shadows in the attic and their witchly powers are activated, igniting a bond that reaches beyond petty, sisterly grudges. Prue has the power to move objects, Piper to freeze time and Phoebe to see the future. The sisters must band together to protect themselves, and the world, from the dark, demonic forces that seek to destroy them. It's an existence fraught with excitement and danger, but these three unique sisters wouldn't trade their "charmed" lives for anything! Paramount has confirmed that this is a 6-DVD set, and it's running time is at 972 minutes. Some of you have asked if the episodes will be close captioned for the hearing impaired, and you'll be glad to know that the answer is "yes", according to various e-tailers. Paramount has NOT discussed extras for this release so far. If they do, we'll let you know. One fan-based website has posted talk of interviews, documentaries, games, biographies, and even a lost episode. Paramount 's info does NOT confirm these things, and the site in question does not name their source for those extras, either. However, this same site does not appear to be in the habit of naming their sources, since they have appropriated the Charmed cover art we previously posted - complete with alterations I made personally - and posted it on their front page with no credit given to TVShowsOnDVD.com. Gee, thanks! So we'll one-up them tonight, and give you a NEW look at the box these DVDs come in: a 3-D skew that shows you the spine of the packaging as well as the front. Happy Thanksgiving, Charmed fans! By David Lambert December 1, 2004 Final word from studio about extras on Charmed Ever since Paramount's announcement of the February 1st release of Charmed - The Complete 1st Season on DVD, we've seen lots of inquiries from fans who wanted to know more about what extras would be contained on the DVD set. In our last news item about this compilation (the one with the 3-D cover art), we mentioned that Paramount had not discussed extras for the release, despite one fan-based website claiming knowledge of extensive bonus material like interviews, documentaries, and lots more...maybe even a lost episode. Since Paramount was not verifying those supplements, we decided to go straight to the studio and ask them about bonus material on this item. A Paramount Home Entertainment executive responded swiftly to our query, and told us that there would be "No extras on Charmed." That is unfortunate, but not unexpected at all when you consider that most of Paramount's TV-on-DVD offerings fall into the same model: "episodes, not extras". One of the only exceptions for that model has been the entire Star Trek set of releases, a mega-franchise with near-legendary status among the populace of the world for more than three decades. We're sorry to bring this bad news to you, of course, but we can all agree that its not worth getting too upset over. After all, Charmed is going to be on DVD in just 8 weeks, and not just a handful of episodes: an entire season of 22 episodes! That's what we really wanted in the first place, and extras are just that: extra. We can live without them, especially at the low price being charged for this 6-DVD set (Amazon.com is currently taking pre-orders for just $34.99!). In the face of that, we won't complain much. Well, maybe just a tiny bit. By David Lambert December 6, 2004 We ask Paramount whether original music is included; answer inside! Following our Charmed - The Complete 1st Season news articles covering such topics as the street date (Feb. 1st), the cover art, and the extras (there aren't any), we've still seen a lot of questions about one last aspect of this release. And on behalf of our many readers, we have passed this question on to Paramount Home Entertainment. We asked Paramount to tell us how much of the music in Charmed would be swapped out on these DVDs. The answer, coming from very high up in the organization, was, "It's my understanding the music is all the original music." This is great news, isn't it? Further, Paramount told us that the soundtrack on the set will be in Dolby Digital Stereo, so fans will be getting the exact same experience as they had in the show's original broadcasts, but with digital quality. This info certainly leaves us feeling charmed! Our thanks once more to Paramount for all of their time working with us to get this information to the fans. |
