| E!Online by Charlie Amter Ovtober 21, 2005 Rose Plucked from Party It pays to have the friends in high places. Just ask Rose McGowan. The Charmed actress was handcuffed and escorted out of a Hollywood party Tuesday night after getting into a "war of words" with an off-duty Los Angeles police officer who was working security. McGowan's ejection was witnessed by dozens of attendees at the T-Mobile Sidekick II Juicy Couture Edition launch party at the Vanguard nightclub. An eyewitness told E! Online that McGowan was on the dance floor "acting suspiciously" when the incident occurred. It was not clear what the actress did to provoke the security guard, but she was cuffed, led outside and released. Event promoter Brent Bolthouse declined comment Thursday. A spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department said there was no report made and no charges filed, a sentiment echoed by McGowan's publicist. "There was no arrest and this is a nonissue," Dominique Appel said. For her part, McGowan downplayed her "three and a half minutes in handcuffs." "It's very silly...I was in the wrong place at the wrong time," she told E! News Thursday at an Oscar de la Renta breast cancer fundraiser in Los Angeles. "I was just mostly embarrassed." According to reports, McGowan felt like somebody was standing too close to her and had a heated exchange with a man. The man turned out to be the cuff-happy security guard. That's when she happened to mention how tight she is with Chief William Bratton. "I'm actually friends with him," she said. There has been no word on whether that really played into her quick release. The LAPD wasn't saying. But McGowan chalked it up to a misunderstanding. Said McGowan: "I thought I was being Punk'd!" Aside from her Charmed day job, the actress is set to appear in Brian De Palma's Black Dahlia, due in 2006. |
