Doherty, Gershon Brace for 'End of the World'

"The End of the World" is coming to CBS, and it's bringing Shannen Doherty with it.

The former
Charmed and Beverly Hills, 90210 star, along with Gina Gershon, James Brolin, Randy Quaid, Tom Skerritt and Swoosie Kurtz, have begun filming the CBS miniseries "Category 7: The End of the World" in Canada. The four-hour mini, scheduled for November sweeps, is a sequel to last year's "Category 6."

Although the network says "Category 7" picks up where its predecessor left off -- with "the ultimate superstorm contin[ing] to build in size," in case you missed it -- Quaid is the only "Category 6" principal returning for the sequel. ("Category 6" also starred Brian Dennehy, Nancy McKeon and Thomas Gibson, who's currently at work on CBS' fall drama
Criminal Minds.)

The new cast includes Doherty -- dropped from the cast of UPN's fall comedy
Love, Inc. after the pilot -- as Faith Clavell, a "beautiful, discredited scientist" who teams with Quaid's storm chaser to try to figure out what's driving the massive storm, which is now wreaking havoc all over the world. Skerritt (Picket Fences, "Top Gun") plays a pilot tracking the storm from the air.

Gershon (Bound,
Snoops) will play the new director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, who must deal with the destruction in the United States even as a superstorm bears down on Washington. Her job is made that much tougher by Brolin ("The Reagans") and Kurtz (Sisters) as a televangelist couple who are broadcasting apocalyptic warnings to their viewers.

Dick Lowry, who directed "Category 6," will also helm the sequel. Roger Soffer and Christian Ford are writing the script.
