| ZAP2it by Rick Porter July 21, 2005 Love, Inc. Crew Sticks Up for Doherty We know what you're thinking, because we were thinking it too. When Shannen Doherty was dropped from the UPN series Love, Inc. shortly after it was picked up, it was easy to conclude that her bad-girl tendencies had reared their heads once again. Not so, say the folks who worked with her on Love, Inc. "I'm glad you asked that," executive producer (and ex-NBC chief) Warren Littlefield said Thursday (July 21) in response to the press conference-opening question about Doherty's departure from the show. "Actually, Shannen was fabulous. ... We sat down with Shannen before we hired her. And we said, 'Wow, you know, you don't have actually a great reputation.' And she said, 'Yeah, I know. But I'm going to change that. I'm excited about doing this show.'" By Littlefield's and Love, Inc. star Holly Robinson Peete's account, Doherty -- who famously left Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed a few seasons into each show's run -- was a peach during the shooting of the pilot. "We had an immediate chemistry and a really good time," Robinson Peete says. "I mean, this is no B.S. We really did. And maybe some of us came into it going 'Ooh, Shannen Doherty. Oh, okay, bad-girl reputation.' But we had so much fun and such a great vibe. ... I was very upset to hear that news. I wish her well, and we all do. We were bummed." UPN Entertainment president Dawn Ostroff says the network made the decision to replace Doherty, citing the standard going-in-a-different-direction reason. Littlefield says he and his fellow producers accepted the idea and are now casting a replacement for Doherty. An announcement should come fairly soon. |
