Season 1

A comet passing Earth exhibits bizarre behavior: instead of following a set path like any other heavenly body,it abruptly changes course and hurtles towards Earth, causing widespread panic. However, instead of crashing, the comet slows down, hovers, and eventually touches down on a lake at Mount Rainer in the Pacific Northwest. Finally, the comet seems to implode in a blinding white light... and 4400 people of all different ages and walks of life who have been presumed dead or missing, are left behind - and none have aged even a day from when they were last seen. They are quarantined, and appear healthy. It's not immediately evident, but starts to become quite clear that these 4400 people have each been returned with a special power, as they unwittingly begin to exhibit abilities.  Maia Rutledge, an 8-year-old girl, abducted in 1946, returns with the power of clairvoyance.  Orson Bailey, a businessman taken in '79, has the terrifying power of telekinesis.  Shawn Farrell, 17, pushes his cousin, Kyle Baldwin, out of a ray of light enveloping Kyle while they drank a few beers near Highland Beach, and Shawn is gone.  When the teenager returns he's able to heal -or kill apparently- with his touch.  Perhaps the most amazing gift is to two abductees - Lily Moore and Richard Tyler.  She was taken in 1993, he was taken decades earlier, in 1951. While in quaratine, they discover they have a unique link; he was in love with her grandmother.  Lily discovers after being released from quarantine that she is pregnant - but has no idea who the father is, as she hasn't had sexual relations with anyone, not prior to her abduction and not after.  Richard and Lily come to find out that the child is theirs, and the baby exhibits some amazing powers of her own, even before she's born. In addition to dealing with these astounding developments, the returnees try to revisit and reconnect to their past lives, as well as face the growing fear and resentment towards them from an understandingly scared, but ignorant public.

A new division of the Homeland Security agency called National Threat Assessment Command -NTAC- is formed to monitor the 4400, lead by Tom Baldwin, a crime investigator, and Diana Skouris, a bio medic. Tom's involvement is also personal: Kyle Baldwin is his son, and Shawn Farrell his nephew.  Tom and Diana slowly investigate one case after another involving the returnees and begin to understand that something amazing is happening. Finally, on the same beach where Shawn was abducted, and Kyle put into a coma for the same amount of time his cousin was gone, they learn the apparent truth.  The 4400 were not abducted by aliens, but by humans living hundreds of thousands of years in the future, who are facing an end stage of human evolution.  These people from the future have given each member of the 4400 the power needed to play pivotal roles in upcoming events that will impact the future of mankind - it's continuation or downfall.
